Please support the Montessori School of Maui

All of our outcomes are made possible through two primary sources of revenue: tuition and fees and contributed income. Thanks to sound sustainable business practices, tuition and fees consistently cover 80% of the costs associated with delivering a world-class education for our students. We depend upon our generous community of parents, grandparents, friends and community partners to provide support that meets our remaining need.

There are a number of ways you can support our work and make a difference in the lives of the young people of Maui.

The Annual Fund

The Annual Fund underwrites all aspects of our program and service including teacher salaries, the maintenance of our campus, the costs associated with our Garden Classroom, utility bills, the purchase and replacement of Montessori materials our students use daily, computers and software for our classrooms and much more.

Generosity in Action

To diagram the impact your generosity may have upon our work, contributions to the Annual Fund may achieve the following:

  • $75 – underwrites the full cost of teaching one child for one day
  • $100 – fully funds our Garden Classroom for one day
  • $150 – covers the difference between Tuition and Fees and the Full Cost of each child’s education for two weeks
  • $400 – underwrites the full cost of teaching one child for one full week
  • $1,000 – covers the School’s utility expenses for one full week
  • $1,500 – underwrites the complete cost of one of our classrooms for one day (including teacher and assistant salary, utilities, materials, etc.)
  • $2,300 – covers the difference between Tuition and Fees and the Full Cost of each child’s education for one full year
  • $3,000 – covers the full cost of two classrooms for two full days

Tuition Assistance Program

The Montessori School of Maui has an established Tuition Assistance Program, an essential aspect of the mission, which helps assure that the socioeconomic diversity of our student body mirrors the greater world in which our children live. It enables families who otherwise would not have the opportunity to provide their children with the benefits and enjoyment of a Montessori education, to become or remain a part of our ‘ohana. Plus, it allows all of our students to develop diverse life-long friendships.  One parent receiving support recently shared:

“As a single mom of three, I never thought it would be possible for my children to go to Montessori.  I sleep better now knowing my kids are gaining fundamental life skills and a solid foundation.”

Hawaiian Scholarship Fund

Building off of the success of the Tuition Assistance Program and in an effort to further reinforce the cultural diversity of our school, the Montessori School of Maui also offers a Hawaiian Scholarship Fund.

The Hawaiian Scholarship Fund is designed to help students who came to us through the Pauahi Keiki Scholarship Program to remain a part of our ‘ohana and continue a Montessori education.  This new scholarship opportunity is available exclusively for children at our school who received financial aid through a Pauahi Keiki Scholarship.  At age six, when these young people no longer qualify for support from the Ke Aliʻi Pauahi Foundation, they become eligible to apply to the Montessori School of Maui Hawaiian Scholarship Fund to help fund tuition and fees for the subsequent school year.

A donor’s commitment to this tuition assistance initiative makes a tangible difference in the lives of families and young people.  One parent receiving support recently shared:

“The Montessori method has proven to be the right match for our daughter.  We are greatly appreciative of the tuition assistance for making this dream a reality.”

As we identify parents with an interest in keeping their child with us throughout the duration of our program, which extends through the 8th Grade, our objective is to connect their financial need with the enthusiasm and commitment of generous members of our community. Ideally, these partners will be interested in a longer-term pledge to each child’s future.

Technology Initiative - Phase I

In addition to the financial needs outlined above, the Montessori School of Maui is engaged in a multi-year fundraising initiative designed to make a long-term impact upon the professionalism of the school, efficiency of the administrative team and technological capabilities of each classroom.  Phase I of our Technology Initiative has largely gone unseen by our parent community but is already making a tremendous difference in the daily lives of the administrative team and teachers.  Our activities, to date, include:

  • Identify and secure a new business agreement to provide internet service for the campus.
  • Pull new internet wiring to multiple areas of campus (utilizing parents and staff at a cost savings of nearly $10,000).
  • Install new wireless hubs throughout campus.
  • Purchase and install new automated computer back-up software for teaching staff and administrative team.
  • Identify and purchase a new administrative database linking teachers, classrooms, parents and the administrative team through a secure seamless database environment.
  • Transfer the School email and calendar system to a Google-based environment.

Future phases of this multi-year project will include the purchase of additional equipment and software for the classroom environments, designed to provide a greater convergence of Montessori teaching methodologies with the realities, technological advancements and skills needed to succeed in our 21st century environment.

It is only with your help and that of other like-minded philanthropists that we are able to fulfill our mission and provide a world-class Montessori education for the young people of Maui. Thank you for your interest in supporting our work!
