SECURITY EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
In all cases: Remain Calm
Call the office and give a brief explanation of the emergency, location, and description of person
The office will notify the Head of School, Business Manager or members of MEMT.
911 will be called if necessary.
I. Suspicious or Violent Persons/Situations — Call the Office
Everyone at MOMI is asked to assist in making the school a safe place by being alert to suspicious persons or suspicious situations. Notify the office of any suspicious persons or suspicious situations you observe. The following guidelines should be observed:
- After making notifications try to isolate the suspicious person
- Attempt to clear the area of students and fellow staff members if doing so would not increase likelihood of harm
- Relocate students if danger is imminent. STAY CALM.
- If relocation is not possible, remain in area awaiting assistance or instructions
II. Missing Child — Call the Office
Everyone at MOMI is asked to assist in making sure our children are safe. Notify the office immediately if you cannot locate a child.
· Office staff who receive the report should note the time and inform the Head
of School or the Business Manager.
· Office staff should stand by or lock each exit to insure child does not leave
· They should also stand in other perimeter areas that a child may be tempted to try to exit form
· Office staff further recruits any available employees to actively search for the child
· If the child is not located within 10 minutes from the time of the report the Head of School or the Business Manager or a member of the MOMI should call 911 and report the missing child to the authorities.
III. Bomb Threat — Call the Office
Upon receiving a called in bomb threat; attempt to gather as much information as possible from the caller:
· When is the bomb going to explode? Where is the bomb located?
· What kind of bomb is it? What does it look like?
· Why did you place the bomb?
Keep talking to the caller as long as possible and record the following:
· Time of call, age and sex of caller
· Speech pattern, accent, possible nationality
· Background noise
· Emotional state of caller (agitated, angry)
· Do not discuss the phone call with anyone but the Head of School or Business Manager
· Upon consultation with the Police Department, the Head of School or Board President will make a decision regarding evacuation
IV. Kidnapping — Call the Office
The office will order an immediate locking of all exits
If you are kidnapped:
· Try to remain calm. Time is on your side.
· Follow instructions. Avoid appearing hostile.
· Be observant. You may be released or be able to escape.
If you receive a kidnapping threat for a student:
· Alert the Head of School, who will take appropriate action.
· Do not dismiss the child until authorized by the Head of School to do so.
