Student Attendance and Punctuality
Regular attendance is important for your child’s success and progress. Please avoid unnecessary absences. Leaving school early or arriving late is a part-day absence. When students are out of school, they miss important group lessons, some of which cannot be duplicated. If your child misses a literature discussion, for example, there is no way to give a “make-up” lesson. Even when make-ups are possible, they often are less effective and they take your child and the teacher away from other activities.
§ Schedule family vacations during school breaks. Our school calendar will make this easier, and whenever possible, routine medical and dental appointments should be scheduled after regular school hours.
§ Being on time to school is essential. School begins at 8:15am For Elementary and Middle School students and at 8:30am for Toddler and Primary students. Students who are late are considered tardy and miss valuable class time. Make every effort to get your child to school on time.
§ Absence and Tardy: Absences and tardies are recorded in your child’s permanent school record. NOTE: Three (3) unexcused tardies equal one (1) unexcused absence.
w Excused absence: A parent will call the office on the day their child is absent or send a note on the day his or her child returns to school indicating the reason for the absence. w Unexcused absence and /or tardy: No phone call from and/or written notification is received from a parent indicating the reason for the absence or tardy. w Excused Tardy: A parent will accompany his or her child to the classroom and sign the attendance sheet specifying the arrival time and a reason for being tardy.
