Our school participated in the Aloha Recycling Contest for non-profit organizations. We collected over 12,000 plastic bottles - it takes 13,000 plastic bottles and milk jugs to make one bale. Through our recycling efforts our school raised $1,027.05.

Montessori School of Maui's Recycling Committee takes tour of Aloha Recycling Center

The Recycling Committee went on a field trip to visit the Aloha Recycling Center. We learned what they do to the glass, plastic, aluminum cans, and other recyclable items.  They crush the glass and they make it into little tiny bits to use for landscaping and roadways. The plastic bottles and milk cartons get crushed into bales and shipped to China, where they make rugs, the aluminum cans are crushed and baled for shipping, they are        re-made into new aluminum cans.
